Hajj Flight Departures Postponed Following Lahore Airport Blaze
Lahore Airport Fire Disrupts Early Morning Flights, Including Hajj Departures
A fire erupted early Thursday morning at Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport, causing chaos for passengers, particularly those booked on Hajj pilgrimage flights. According to initial reports, the fire seems to have originated in the immigration area, significantly damaging the processing systems. This resulted in a halt to immigration procedures and the evacuation of passengers from the surrounding lounges due to smoke inhalation concerns.
Firefighters and emergency response teams, including Rescue 1122, arrived promptly at the scene and brought the blaze under control. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the fire.
This incident is reminiscent of a similar fire that occurred in 2022 at Multan International Airport. There, a malfunctioning electrical circuit in the FIA immigration staff room sparked the flames, leading to the evacuation of both international arrival and departure lounges as a precaution.
