Babar Azam Nears Record as T20 Captain with Potential Historic Success
Pakistan's Babar Azam Eyes T20I Run Record in Upcoming Series
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam sits poised to etch his name further into the record books of T20I cricket. The prolific batsman currently occupies the third position on the all-time list for most runs scored in the format, with a cumulative total of 3,823.
With a crucial seven-match T20I series against Ireland and England looming this month, Azam has a golden chance to leapfrog past Indian stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the rankings.
To reach Sharma's tally, Azam needs just 151 more runs. Toppling Kohli at the top of the leaderboard will require an additional 215 runs.
The Pakistan team departed Lahore today, transiting through Dubai en route to Dublin, Ireland. They are scheduled to play three T20Is in Ireland, followed by a four-match series in England. After concluding this tour, Pakistan will set their sights on the T20 World Cup which will be held in the United States.
A final selection for the World Cup squad will be made following the first T20I against England scheduled for May 22nd. The current 18-man contingent will be trimmed down to 15 players for the global tournament.
