Reportedly, Karachi Suffers Loss of Over Rs. 3 Billion in a Single Day from Business Shutdown
Karachi Traders Upset by Lockdown During Iranian President's Visit
KARACHI, Pakistan - Business owners in Karachi are expressing frustration after the Sindh government imposed a lockdown on the city during the Iranian president's visit. The lockdown, declared a provincial holiday on Tuesday, forced the closure of major shopping centers like those in Saddar and the electronics market on MA Jinnah Road.
While essential businesses like grain markets and some clothing stores were allowed limited operation, overall business activity remained sluggish. Traders fear significant financial losses, estimating daily revenue shortfalls of around Rs 3.5 billion. They have called on the government to develop a clear roadmap to ensure business continuity with minimal disruption.
