Pakistan Gets First Virtual Women Police Station by CM Maryam Nawaz

Lahore Gets First-of-Its-Kind Virtual Women's Police Station

Lahore, Pakistan - April 23, 2024  -  Women in Lahore can now report crimes and seek help from the comfort of their homes! Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif unveiled a groundbreaking initiative - Pakistan's first virtual women's police station called "Mari Awaz, Maryam Nawaz."

This online station is a game-changer for women. It replaces the traditional police station setting with a user-friendly platform.  No more feeling uncomfortable or unsafe visiting a physical station.

Here's how it works: Women can report crimes and connect with law enforcement through various channels, including:

  • A dedicated 15 Call number
  • A specialized Women Safety App with live chat and video call features
  • The Punjab Police App
  • The Safe City web portal
This multi-channel approach ensures everyone has a way to reach the police,  whether they prefer a phone call, a chat, or a video conversation.

Safety and Privacy First:

The virtual station prioritizes confidentiality and puts women's safety first. Chief Minister Nawaz emphasized their commitment to handling cases quickly and discreetly, especially those involving harassment.  Women can even report anonymously, creating a safe space to come forward without fear.

More Safety Measures:

The virtual station isn't the only step towards a safer Lahore. The government is also installing 100 emergency Panic-15 buttons in strategic locations like schools, markets, and busy intersections.  These buttons connect directly to the Safe City Authority, allowing for immediate help during emergencies.

Bridging the Digital Divide:

Recognizing the importance of staying connected, the government launched the "CM Maryam Nawaz Free Wi-Fi" service.  This initiative provides free Wi-Fi at over 50 locations across Lahore, aiming to bridge the digital divide and empower residents with online access.

Innovation All Around:

Chief Minister Nawaz also highlighted other innovative projects.  The Punjab Safe Cities Authority is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to monitor traffic violations and issue tickets. This is a first-of-its-kind approach in Pakistan, showcasing how technology can improve public safety and governance.

A Brighter Future for Lahore:

These initiatives by Chief Minister Nawaz represent a comprehensive approach to safety, equality, and technology.  The virtual women's police station, emergency buttons, free Wi-Fi, and AI for traffic management all work together to create a safer, more inclusive, and technologically advanced Lahore for everyone.
