Amir Khan Departs Pakistan Following Closure of His $100,000 Academy
Islamabad Boxing Academy Closed: Amir Khan Disappointed, Seeks Government Intervention
Former boxing champion Amir Khan expressed his disappointment over the closure of his Islamabad boxing academy in a video message. The academy, established in 2016, aimed to provide training and opportunities for aspiring boxers in Pakistan.
Khan described the academy as a "bustling center of activity" during his visits, but noted its current closure with sadness. He highlighted the impact of the academy, mentioning the messages he receives from children eager to train.
"Despite reaching out to government officials," Khan said, "there hasn't been any progress" regarding the reopening. He emphasized the importance of supporting boxing in Pakistan and expressed concern about the missed potential for developing talent.
Khan described the academy as a "state-of-the-art facility" with modern equipment. "It's disheartening to see such a facility closed," he stated.
Calling for government intervention, Khan stressed the importance of reviving the academy for aspiring boxers.
The academy was launched in collaboration with the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), with Khan providing coaching and equipment. The agreement reportedly included government support for the academy's operations.
Without government assistance, Khan announced his return to England. He, however, did not rule out exploring legal options to reclaim the academy in the future.
Khan concluded the message with a hopeful note, expressing his desire to see the academy become a thriving hub for boxing talent in Pakistan once again.
